| HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP... |
| posted: September 8th, 2008 - 2:04pm |
QUESTION:
My unit is about 6 years old and I had several problems with it. However, I don't think anything that happened before is related to current issue. There is a noise in the furnace and I can't figure out where it is coming from. I remove the air duct that sucks air and rotated the vent or turbine (not sure how it's called) that attached to the motor and it was spinning very quiet and smooth. But when I turn the AC on, it sounds like a lawn mover. It started few days ago and seems like it is getting worst. It almost sounds like propeller is touching a plastic bag. Please let me know what I can check. Any help would be appreciated. |
ANSWER:
It sounds like your blower wheel either has some foreign matter in it, possibly insulation or paper, or it is rubbing up against the housing this happens as motors age and endplay increases you may just have to move the wheel. If that is the case there is a set screw in the hub of the wheel you can loosen it with a crescent wrench then slide the wheel to a more central spot.
