HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP...
posted: September 8th, 2008 - 2:04pm
QUESTION:
Started feeling warm this afternoon and suspected that the AC wasn't cooling as it should. Felt the vent and the air was not cool.
The breakers weren't tripped, and the fan on the outside unit was blowing, but... the air from that fan felt cool. Isn't the usual warm air as I think it should be.
ANSWER: First of all you need to shut of the power to your outdoor unit the compressor is overheated and out on thermal overload and needs time to cool down, while it is cooling you need to check the wiring from the terminals under the square black plastic cover which houses the compressor terminals, tighten these and if there are any burnt wires they need to be replaced.
If the compressor terminals are ok you need to check the capacitor (see if it is bulging on top).
Clean the outdoor coils to make sure you have the right air flow across your outdoor coil.
If after checking these things the compressor still won't start you will need to call a tech.
