| HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP... |
| posted: September 8th, 2008 - 2:04pm |
QUESTION:
We have the old common Honeywell T87 beige thermostat, and are thinking it might be malfunctioning. This is because, the A/C is set at 25 degrees celsius, and the house feels colder than it ever has at that same temperature, with the A/C running for quite long periods. There is a second thermostat in the house that has no on or off switch just a temperature dial that we have always set to 25 and left alone but since our recent trouble we have turned it up but no effect. I don't know if that is even hooked up.

ANSWER:
If that second thermostat has a dial but no switches it is probably an old honeywell dampering control 3 wire stat and this may be part of your problem since you have lived in the house awhile I will trust your feeling that something is different but it may be that either the second control is malfunctioning or that there is a damper stuck closed and your main control is overrunning because no air is going where it is supposed to. You could try to replace the main stat just to see if that is the problem but if that fails to resolve the issue you will probably have to call for help as a zone system is kind of involved and would be hard to diagnose through the forums.
