HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP...
posted: September 8th, 2008 - 2:04pm
QUESTION:
I have one zone in my house where I have 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and a long hallway. The air handler is up in the attic and each room has a separate return and supply. The problem is that the air handler is located in the middle right above a bathroom.
At various times of the day the temperature will be either too cold on one side and too cold on the other or vice versa.
We have had the installing contractor out several times, they have made various adjustments with no real resolution. As you can imagine we are quite frustrated and would like any advice we can get, any help would be appreciated.
ANSWER: This is a common problem with new homes and there are no real easy answers for you. One thing you can do to help your situation in the short term is turn the fan on "ON" think about it even when your thermostat is satisfied your fan will continue to circulate air at that temperature, say 72 degrees, this will obviously even out the temperatures in your house. This is not an answer for you but it will help until you figure out a permanent solution, of course when you do figure out a solution you may not want to pay for it.
The problem you have is when the sun is hitting your house from the southeast in the morning and the southwest in the evening you have a completely different heat load on one side of the house as the other.
This happens with larger areas and you can help the situation with window treatments, shading or insulation apart from that you either have to have a zone system with individual controllers for each area or two systems.
I would be shopping for blinds not a contractor.
