| HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP... |
| posted: September 8th, 2008 - 2:04pm |
QUESTION:
We met with another HVAC guy today and he mentioned that no one installs metal ducting anymore, as it is so expensive plus time intensive installation. Is the new flex duct as efficient as the metal ducting for moving/pushing air? |
ANSWER:
Flex duct creates more restriction due to the ribbing in the duct this person is trying to get out of work. Most engineers when they specify ducting restrict flex duct to no more than 5 feet long so you run a metal branch line to within 5 feet of the supply then tie together with 5 feet of flex. You can find someone to put in hard pipe however you may have to pay a premium. |
