| HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP... |

QUESTION:
The problem I am having is that since my AC unit is mounted horizontally the drain holes are next to the return and the condensate does not drain out until the blower stops running. I've shut the AC down once and saw the condensate shooting out of the end of the tubing outside. With the access panel removed and the AC on I was able to see that the condensation accumulates but can't drain away because the air coming through the return blows the water away from the drain. What can I do to allow the water to drain away while the blower is still running? Is there a kit that can be purchased to prevent this or is the evaporator coil installed incorrectly?

ANSWER:
Your system is suffering from negative pressure either it has no trap on the drain line or the filter is so plugged up that it is sucking some of it's air through the drain. Replace the filter and clean the drain line and make sure it is trapped (a dip of at least 2 inches in the piping that will hold water and not allow back pressure.
