| HOMEOWNER CRIES FOR HELP... |
| posted: September 8th, 2008 - 2:04pm |
QUESTION:
Just had the compressor replaced in my 17 year old tempstar unit for the upstairs of my home. My upstairs system has a trunk line feed configuration with one main return in the hall way. I've lived in the home for 10 yrs., the south bedrm. has 2 vents and , the north master bedrm 2 vents.Recently I had my repair guy back, the south end of the house is 10 degrees cooler than the north, yet last week the north was just as cool. The unit had frozen up,it was only a 1/2lb. low of gas, new return filters, I've checked coil, which is clean, but I discovered the actual blower unit which is directly attached to the coil is only pushing air through a 1/3 of the coil surface. Any suggestions why there is such a temperature difference between the 2 ends of the home?

| ANSWER:
I hate to tell you but it sounds like your indoor coil needs to be cleaned and your system is probably overcharged if you feel comfortable pull the coil out carefully and check the underneath side and see if it is plugged with debris, if it is, clean it with evaporator coil cleaner which can be purchased at your nearest HVAC supplier
